Tirupati: The International Mother Tongue Day was celebrated at Rashtriya Sanskrit Vidyapeetha (RSVP) in grand manner here on Wednesday. RSVP Vice-Chancellor Prof V Muralidhara Sharma in his presidential speech reiterated that the fluency in Sanskrit can only enriches the mother tongue.

The idioms and phrases will also play a vital role in mother tongue. Vidyapeetha resembles a mini Bharat where students of 15 states across the country were pursuing their studies in different courses, he mentioned, adding each one can train others to learn another language apart from his mother tongue.

The Special Officer of the TTD’s Purana Itihasa Project and chief guest Mahamahopadhyaya Prof Samudarala Lakshmanaiah has opined that, Sanskrit is mother of all mother tongues. The Dean of Veda Vedangas, Prof J Ramakrishna said that one should do upasana for language and everybody should think that language is Goddess Saraswati. “Then only they can have fluency of language, particularly mother tongue,” he stated.

In his welcome address, the Dean of Academic Affairs Prof RLN Sastry spoke about historical aspect of the Mother Tongue Day. The programme was organised by the Vagvardhini Parishad, which is headed by the Coordinator Dr Bharath Bhushan Rath. To commemorate the programme, the organisers have conducted elocution, essay writing, and singing competitions in 12 Indian languages.
