Guntur: A laboratory technician working on a contract basis in the Guntur General Hospital attempted suicide by dousing his body with petrol in the presence of hospital superintendent Dr D S Raju Naidu and MLA Mustafa at the superintendent’s chamber here on Friday.
They immediately stopped him, while this incident has created a sensation. According to sources, lab technician SK Mustafa had been working at the GGH for the past 15 years on a contract basis. He will get incentives for conducting tests and services under the NTR Vaidya Seva Scheme.
Earlier, regular employees and contract employees had equal share in the incentive. However, recently, microbiology department Prof Srinivasa Rao was giving 60 per cent share in the incentives to the regular lab technicians and 40 per cent incentives to contract lab technicians. Mustafa demanded 50 per cent share in the incentives and complained to GGH superintendent Dr DS Raju Naidu in this regard.
Responding to the request of the some contract employees, Guntur (East) MLA Mustafa met GGH Superintendent Dr DS Raju Naidu and discussed the problem on Friday. The superintendent assured him that he would solve the problem in the presence of MLA Mustafa.
Later, speaking to the Hans India, GGH Superintendent Dr.D S Raju Naidu said: “I assured him that I would settle his problem in the presence of MLA Mustafa and constituted a four-member committee with the GGH doctors to conduct an inquiry into the incident. After getting report, I will take further action”.
