Visakhapatnam: Duvvada police solved the mystery behind the suspicious death of daily wage labourer Appanna (32) and arrested his wife, along with her paramour, who killed Appanna by mixing cyanide in his wine.

The incident occurred on May 18 after the accused wife Nagamani (27) and her boyfriend Varadhi Kumar (22) of Appikonda Colony in Kurmannapalem were arrested by the police in a dramatic manner here on Friday.

According to Joint Police Commissioner-II T Ravi Kumar Murthy, deceased Appanna was residing with his wife Nagamani at Rajeev Nagar in Kurmannapalem. The accused Varadhi Kumar, a friend of the deceased, used to administering cyanide to the animals and birds.

As per police records, the deceased Appanna was arrested by the Duvvada in October of 2016 in a case related to death of one of the spectators of the cockfight and went to jail. When Appana was in jail, Varadhi Kumar developed intimacy with Nagamani.

They continued their illegal relationship even after Appana was released from the jail and came to know about their affair and he brought it to the notice of the village elders, who in turn scolded the duo.

Hence, they hatched a plan and Varadhi Kumar brought cyanide from his friend Jagadish who is by profession a goldsmith at Vaddadi Madugula on the pretext of hunting birds. Kumar had purchased liquor and mixed the cyanide in it and informed the same to Nagamani over phone.

On that day, the deceased Appanna, who had already consumed liquor before coming to his house, had invited his father and had the cyanide mixed liquor. Later, the duo became unconscious and were admitted to RK Hospital in Gajuwaka area where Appanna was declared brought dead while his father was put on a ventilator.

Initially, Duvvada police registered a suspicious case of death, later Duvvada Inspector of Police YK Kishore Kumar found some liquor bottle with a left-over drop and collected the samples and sent them to the forensic laboratory for tests. Later, during their investigation, illegal extramarital affair came to light. During the interrogation, Nagamani confessed that she, along with her paramour Varadhi Kumar, had killed her husband.
