Vijayawada: TDP general secretary and IT minister Nara Lokesh said that the BJP, not YSRCP, is the main rival to the TDP in the coming general elections. “YSRCP president Y S Jaganmohan Reddy is not our rival in 2019; BJP is our real target,” he explained to the rank and file of the TDP.

He called upon the cadre to strive for the victory of the party in 2019 polls. While addressing the cadre on the second day of Mahanadu, Lokesh explained that if anybody votes for the YSRCP, then it would be construed as a vote for BJP as it is behind the Jagan’s party.

Comparing the political situation in 2014 and 2019 elections, the TDP general secretary said that YSRCP was the rival to TDP in 2014, but in the run up to 2019, the political scene has changed. Both BJP and YSRCP were in collusion and were indulging in conspiracy politics, encouraging casteism and propagating false charges against the state government, he said.

“The YSRCP is almost on ventilator and is in Intensive Care Unit. But the BJP is continuously pumping oxygen to it. At the same time, the BJP is resorting to casteism and provoking retired IAS officials and others against Chief Minister,” Lokesh alleged.

While speaking on the resolution, ‘New initiatives in rural development, convergence of funds, win over poverty through MGNREGA’, Lokesh explained that the YSRCP and BJP leaders including YV Subbareddy, Avinash Reddy and Somu Veerraju wrote letters to the Central government asking it to stop funds for MGNREGA works in the state alleging corruption.

“Thereby they were responsible for denying livelihood of poor workers. At this juncture, Chandrababu Naidu gave Rs 1,300 crore as wages to them from state government’s budget,” he pointed out.

Challenging the opposition leaders who made corruption allegations against him, Lokesh stated that if they had courage then they have to prove all these allegations. The BJP, as it could not convince the people, was confusing them, he said.

“When Congress was in power, they laid only 1100 km CC roads for 10 years. But within four years, we have laid 16,000 km CC roads. The opposition leaders are walking on the roads laid by TDP government,’’ the minister said.

Dealing on the development initiatives taken by the state government, he said that out of 712 districts in the country, West Godavari became number one in erecting LED lights in the streets and 1,400 panchayats are generating money from waste material. He called upon the TDP cadres to strive to have Chandrababu get elected again as Chief Minister with a huge majority.
