Chirala: At a time when government schools are being shunned by many government teachers and bureaucrats themselves, there is one government school in Chirala, for which parents are a making a beeline with recommendation letters from ministers and MLAs seeking admissions. That, too, for a school for which even the construction works have not been completed.
Going into details, the Zilla Parishad High School is being constructed at Kothapet village just beside Chirala town at a cost of Rs 2.20 crore. The school is being built with a spacious playground with courts for 10 varieties of sports and games and a dining hall with seating capacity of nearly 500 people.
The school will be run by a management committee comprising teachers, parents and eminent people from all walks of society. The school offers CCTV camera system for security, bicycles to the girls and transport facility to students coming from long distance. Besides, curd and an extra curry would also be added to the menu for the mid-day meals. A health check-up to the students would also be conducted.
The budget of the school is being met by the contributions made by the people and donations by local MLA Amanchi Krishnamohan, District Mineral Fund and from the Zilla Parishad School development funds. The school is said to be the dream project of Amanchi Krishnamohan, who strived to select teams and officials, to provide quality services and mobilise necessary funds from the government.
He admitted his second son in the same school and also declared that he would try to develop all schools in his constituency by taking the Kothapet ZP High School as a model. A large number of parents are seeking admissions and they took TCs from the private schools in the surrounding areas.
Speaking to The Hans India, MEO of Chirala K Lakshmi Narayana, said that the school would offer free and holistic education to the children. He said that the school was being built with a capacity of 1500 students but for the first year, they were limiting the pupil’s strength to just 1000 as the construction work was still pending.
DEO VS Subbarao said that the school received nearly 1,500 applications. He announced that the extra 500 students will be adjusted in the neighbouring schools for this year after convincing their parents. The Zilla Parishad School is scheduled to be inaugurated by Minister for Panchayat Raj and Rural Development and Information Technology Nara Lokesh on June 19.
