Tirupati: The pushcart vendors staged a protest here on Friday against the Municipal Corporation of Tirupati for evicting them from the six busy areas where they were doing businesses in the city.
The pushcart vendors under the banner of AITUC blocked the main entrance of the Municipal Corporation office here by placing the pushcarts and squatting before the main entrance and raised slogans demanding, alternate places for resuming their businesses for livelihood.
The CITU separately launched a relay hunger strike by pushcart hawkers demanding the corporation to allow them to continue their businesses from where they were evicted two weeks back.
Hawkers Association leader and CPM city secretary Subramanyam has criticised the corporation authorities for abruptly evicting the hawkers without showing them alternate place for their livelihood. He vowed that the agitation would continue till the corporation budge and provide alternate places for the evicted hawkers.
