Amaravati: Speaker Dr Kodela Sivaprasada Rao instructed the officials here on Tuesday to organise a three-day hill festival at Kotappakonda in December.

Addressing the officials of the forest, tourism and endowment departments at his chambers in the Assembly, the Speaker said that the hill festival should bring awareness among the people regarding the importance of forests in addition to introducing Indian culture.

Stating Kotappakonda, which had been in isolation for decades, is now buzzing with devotees and tourists, the Speaker said that thousands of children are starting their education with ‘Aksharabhyasam’ at the temple of Dakshinamurthy situated at Kotappakonda.

The festival, which would be organised for three days would include puppet show, drama, dances by dappu artistes, kolatam and other programmes, the Speaker said.

He instructed the officials to make the Kotappakonda hill festival a grand success like they did in conducting women’s Parliament last year. He said that the construction of the ropeway to Kotappakonda should be completed by November.

Tourism secretary Mukesh Kumar Meena, Tourism Director Himanshu Shukla, Forest CCF (retired) Suryanarayana, DSO Mohan, Endowments DE Srinivas and others were present.
