Visakhapatnam: Tension prevailed for some time when the BJP and TDP activists raised slogans favouring their leaders Narendra Modi and Chandrababu Naidu at the foundation stones laying ceremony for national highways works here on Friday.
Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu, Union Minister of Shipping , Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari, VVIPs, ministers, MPs and MLAs from the both parties were present at the ceremony.
When BJP activists started chanting the name of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the TDP activists started slogans ‘Jai Chandrababu’. When Gadkari was speaking, the TDP activists raised slogans demanding announcement of a separate railway zone. Countering the slogans, the BJP activists started slogans ‘Bharathmathaki Jai’ and ‘Jai Narendra Modi’.
The police and security personnel geared up to face any eventuality. However, Nitin Gadakari instructed his party men to maintain restraint. With this the BJP activists stopped their slogans.
