Atmakur: In total, 1.8 lakh cusecs of flood water reached the confluence of seven rivers at Sangameshwaram in Kurnool district on Saturday with heavy discharge of water from Almatti, Narayanapur and Jurala projects in the upper reaches of the river. The flood water is threatening to inundate the western bathing ghat here.

The Shiva Linga at the Sangameshwar temple will be submerged when the water-level touches 838-feet mark in Srisailam dam. The flood water is estimated to enter the sanctum sanctorum of the temple by 10 am on Sunday. Temple priest Telakapalli Raghunadha Sharma is observing the flood situation and making arrangements to conduct Kalyana Mahotsavam to deities – Goddess Lalita and Lord Sangameshwara on Sunday. Because of the flood threat, the arrangements are on to conduct the Kalyanam in the wee hours of Sunday.
