Vijayawada: Bhavanipuram circle inspector D Mohan Reddy on Wednesday attended the High Court and filed the counter petition in connection with the Mujra organised in a hotel in Bhavanipuram on July 19. The city police on July 20 arrested 50 men and five women in hotel for attending obscene Mujra dance party.
Police announced that they arrested the organisers for organising obscene dances in the city. But, one person Khasim Basha filed the petition in the High Court alleging that the police had let scot free the main organiser and arrested other persons.
The High Court accepted the petition and asked Commissioner of Police Dwaraka Tirumala Rao, West ACP K Sudhakar and Bhavanipuram station house officer D Mohan Reddy to attend the court. Consequently, circle inspector Mohan Reddy attended the High Court and filed a counter petition on Wednesday saying that the police arrested all the accused in connection with Mujra.
Earlier, the petitioner has asked the High Court to appoint a team for the fresh investigation of the case. Five female dancers from Hyderabad, Vijayawada and Bhimavaram participated in the obscene dances. The organisers reportedly collected Rs 10,000 to Rs 15,000 from each customer for attending the dance event.
The police after arresting the 50 men in the hotel shifted them to Bhavanipuram, Ibrahimpatnam, Governorpet and One Town police stations on July 20. Five women were handed over to Vasavya Mahala Mandali. There were allegations that a follower of a TDP leader was behind the Mujra dance party.
Joint Commissioner of Police Kanti Rana Tata had earlier announced that all the accused were arrested. But, the petitioner alleged that the main accused was left by the police and asked for fresh investigation into the case.
