Visakhapatnam: The city police arrested a most wanted burglar Nodagala Shiva Sankar and recovered Rs 35.75 lakh worth gold ornaments and silver articles from the accused. The accused, a resident of Kommadi area near Madhurwada, is an auto-rickshaw driver.

Addressing a press conference here on Saturday, Commissioner of Police Mahesh Chandra Laddha said that with the arrest of the known offender the police solved 32 housebreaking cases registered in various police stations in the city.

The police recovered 948 grams of gold ornaments and 1.5 kg silver articles all worth Rs 35.75 lakh from the accused, he added.

Shiva Sankar had a criminal track record in committing property offences in the city and also in Vizianagaram and East Godavari districts. Earlier, he was arrested and remanded.

The PM Palem police in the city opened a suspect sheet against the accused and a non-bailable warrant (NBW) was pending against Shiva Shankar. During the past one year, Shiva Sankar committed 32 property offences under PM Palem, Kancharapalem, Gajuwaka and at some other places in the city. The prime target of the accused is locked houses.


The police also registered cases against eight persons, including an advocate Venkatesh, for receiving the stolen property from the accused. One of the constables of PM Palem Police Station BNV Siva Prasad played a key role in identifying the accused, the Commissioner of Police said.

In another case, Fourth-Town police arrested three persons, including a burglar M Ravi Kumar, and stolen property receivers VM Gowrish and A Brahmaji and recovered 129 gms of gold jewellery from them.

The Two-Town police also arrested N Govind (31) for snatching a cash bag containing Rs 12 lakh from a woman at Yellammathota area in the city.
