Guntur: Medical college attached to the All India Institute of Medical Sciences, Mangalagiri, will start classes for first batch MBBS students on August 30 on the temporary premises in Siddartha Government Medical College in Vijayawada.

The AIIMS administration has made arrangements and provided necessary infrastructure as per norms to start the classes. The first batch will start with 50 students which were filled based on the All India level test.

The Centre has appointed required faculty. They set up hostels for students and quarters were provided to the faculty which were filled based on All India recruitment process. AIIMS Deputy Director Shramadeep Sinha has already reviewed the arrangements.

Gradually the seats in the AIIMS will increase in the days to come and the AIIMS Medical College will continue at Siddartha Medical College in Vijayawada till the completion of AIIMS permanent buildings at Mangalagiri. The out-patient medical services at AIIMs in Mangalagiri will start from December. Union Minister J P Nadda visited the AIIMS and conducted a review meeting.

Speaking to The Hans India, AIIMS Deputy Director Shramadeep Sinha said: “We made the arrangements to start MBBS first batch classes from August 30. All the 59 seats were filled in the college. We will do formal inauguration and start classes on August 30. Official inauguration will take place later. We have expert faculty for all subjects and provided necessary infrastructure.

Meanwhile, Special Chief Secretary Medical and Health Poonam Malakondaiah will hold a meeting with Dr NTR University of Health Sciences Vice-Chancellor Dr CV Rao, Director of Medical Education Dr K Babji in two days at the Health University to discuss the steps to be taken to conduct counselling to the professors in the 11 government medical colleges in the state. Later, they will conduct counselling in all the government medical colleges.
