Kadapa: Principal Secretary (Health) Poonam Malakondaiah said the state government has sanctioned Rs 60 crore for improving infrastructure at Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) in Kadapa district. She visited the RIMS on Wednesday and inspected several wards.

Later, she held a review meeting with the RIMS officials and informed them the proposed funds should be spent for construction of a hospital block, hostels for medical students and library. She also told the officials that another Rs 12 crore would be sanctioned for other requirements.

While expressing satisfaction over performance of medical staff in providing services to the 33,000 in-patients and conducting 9,300 various surgeries in the last 4 months, the Principal Secretary stated there was steep increase in number of out-patients visiting the hospital.

She said introduction of NTR medical services had instilled the confidence among the public on government hospitals. She appreciated the RIMS gynaecologists for performing normal deliveries instead of conducting Caesarean section operations. She urged the RIMS officials to promote institutional deliveries for the benefit of poor.

Later, Poonam interacted with the medical students and they apprised her over various issues faced by them. She assured them of taking their problems to the notice of the Chief Minister. District Collector Ch Harikiran, Hospital Development Committee acting Chairman Muralidhar Reddy, RIMS Director Sasidhar, Superintendent Giridhar, DM&HO V Umasundari, paramedical staff and others were present.
