Nellore: APSRTC Vice-Chairman and Managing Director N V Surendra Babu informed that they were trying to install trackers for even ‘Palle Velugu’ services for live tracking. He also said that they are going to purchase 80 air-conditioned buses to ply in various routes.

RTC MD visited Nellore and reviewed with RTC functioning with officials at the RM’s Office here on Tuesday. Interacting with the media, Surendra Babu said that they were trying to reduce accident rate in the Corporation limits providing special training to the drivers.

He also explained that they have been conducting breath analyser test to every driver before attending duties. “If a driver is found in an inebriated condition then the Depot authorities will not assign duties to him.

The same driver repeats the mistake next time then there would be an action against such person. If the driver continues same attitude then the authorities will recommend him for termination from the services,” said the RTC MD.

Now, Nellore Region has 17 per cent occupancy ratio which was increased by 3 per cent when compared to last year, he added. He also said that the Region is having a revenue of Rs 145 crore now. Surendra Babu stated the Region earned Rs 7 crore when compared to last year.

“RTC has been utilising technology to provide more services to the passengers. We have been handling 17,000 parcels per day through logistic services and tracking the buses after installing trackers,” he mentioned. The MD said they were trying to procure electric buses.

Surendra Babu informed that calls to drivers would be diverted to APSRTC Call Centre in future for reservation and live tracking enquiries. Employees at call centre would attend the calls from the passengers and answers them. RTC Regional Manager GV Ravi Varma and other officials were present.
