Tirupati: Municipal Corporation of Tirupati (MCT) Commissioner V Vijay Rama Raju has urged the temple city residents to maintain cleanliness in and around their houses by dumping the waste in designated dumper bins only as the municipal sanitation workers are continuing the strike.

Speaking to the media here on Friday, the Commissioner said the civic body has made the arrangements to clear the garbage in Tirupati. He acknowledged the role of municipal health workers in keeping the city clean every day. “We have accepted all the demands of sanitation workers which were mentioned in the memorandum submitted to me,” said Vijaya Rama Raju.

The civic chief stated the present strike call given by trade unions is to scrap GO 279. The civic chief said that the GO 279 is good for outsourcing employees and also to the city in future.

He mentioned that the MCT will appoint additional number of public health workers to keep temple city clean. In future, the MCT can appoint additional number of public health workers for temple city if GO 279 is not scraped,” the Commissioner explained. Vijay Rama Raju said that 580 outsourcing civic workers were absent for duties.

The Corporation Commissioner gave a call to voluntary organisations to come forward with a service motto to help the civic body authorities in clearing the garbage and maintaining the cleanliness on roads and public places.

He informed that the MCT has engaged gulfer machines to clear the stagnated rainwater on roads as the city received heavy downpour in the last two days.
