Visakhapatnam: Andhra University Defence Joint Education programme academic advisor Ujjwal Kumar said that the varsity would train 500 soldiers and officers of Indian Armed Forces in technical and skill development programmes in the current academic year.

Speaking to The Hans India on Sunday, Ujjwal Kumar said that Andhra University is the first among the state universities to train armed forces to enable them to resettle in civil society.

Currently, the varsity is offering the following technical courses like Diploma in Disaster Management with two batches of 24 weeks and 66 students each with effect from October 8 and January 7, 2019.

The varsity will also launch a course in cyber security with 66 students for 12 weeks from December 17, Diploma in Marine Engineering with 40 students for 24 weeks from January 7, 2019, yoga course for 12 weeks with 30 students from February 4 and Fire & Safety engineering of 12 weeks with 60 participants from March 4, 2019.

Another 10 courses are yet to be sanctioned for 1,000 participants. Earlier, the varsity trained 2,000 candidates in 15 different courses sponsored by the Defence Ministry.
