Visakhapatnam: A nine-member gang of thieves, assuming to be Chaddi Banian gang, had to return empty handed as they failed to break open the lockers inside the five flats, which they entered after breaking the locks at Visvesvaraya Colony in Gajuwaka in the early hours of Thursday.

According to Gajuwaka Circle Inspector K Rama Rao, unidentified thieves’ gang observed that the owners of five flats in the apartment were went on a trip and broke open the locks to loot the houses.

The incident came to light when the neighbours informed Gajuwaka police that someone had locked their doors from outside. Police rushed to the spot in the early hours of Thursday and noticed that the doors of five flats were unlocked and all the furniture was disturbed.

After returning the flat’s owners told the police that the burglars attempted to rob but failed to open the lockers and nothing was lost. It is a good time for the thieves to strike the houses as many people will go Dasara festival vacation.

Hence the people should use the Locked House Monitoring System (LHMS), a special app developed by the police to avoid thefts. CI K Rama Rao appealed the people to download the app and upon their request the police will install the WiFi modem and camera equipment and link this with owner’s phone and also to police control room.
