Protesters end fast-unto-death
With the state government conceding to elicit public opinion with respect to upcoming Godavari Mega Aqua Food Park at Jonnalagaruvu village in West Godavari district, the struggle committee conveners, Mucharla Trimurthulu and Aareti Vasu called off their fastuntodeath agitation on a temporary basis on Sunday night
Govt agrees to seek public opinion on aqua food park
Bhimavaram: With the state government conceding to elicit public opinion with respect to upcoming Godavari Mega Aqua Food Park at Jonnalagaruvu village in West Godavari district, the struggle committee conveners, Mucharla Trimurthulu and Aareti Vasu called off their fast-unto-death agitation on a temporary basis on Sunday night.
They threatened the government to intensify their struggle, if the government failed to keep its word on the conceded demands.
Following arrest of five members of the committee on Sunday, tension prevailed in the village along with two adjoining villages. In order to ease tension, Bhimavaram Tahsildar Ch Prasad and Narsapuram CI Subba Rao convened several rounds of talks with the agitators as per the directions of higher officials.
The agitators pacified when the officials reacted positively for their demands. The protesters wanted immediate release of the five arrested agitators, seeking public opinion on construction of aqua food park, release of effluents into Yanamadurru drain and high tension power supply lines over fields.
It may be mentioned here that tension escalated in three villages of Jonnalagaruvu, Kamsali Bethapudi and Tundurru in Bhimavaram mandal when police arrested five members of struggle committee against the construction of Godavari Mega Aqua Food Park on Sunday.
