Ongole: The women are facing discrimination and ill treatment ever since they are in the womb of mother, said SP B S Yesubabu.

He said that a better society could be created with the help of teachers by letting the students know about the rights, responsibilities and punishments for crimes even if they do them due to innocence.

The SP participated in a programme to celebrate 100 days of Sakhi women police teams establishment and distributed Hitha-Samhitha questionnaire books to the head masters, in Ongole on Saturday.

With the cooperation of the education department, the SP invited head masters from 493 government schools and 25 Sakhi team members to Ongole. DEO VS Subbarao, SP BS Yesubabu and other officials paid rich floral tributes to photo of Srinivasa Ramanujan, whose birthday is celebrated as Maths Day on every December 22.

Speaking at the meeting, the SP said that the Sakhi teams, which were established hundred days ago with 25 women police constables have visited 138 schools and created awareness on good touch, bad touch, ragging, eve-teasing, women trafficking and child marriages.

He said the police department has prepared an objective oriented questionnaire to create awareness among students on the acts for women and child protection, their rights and punishments for involving various crimes. He opined that the girl child was facing ill treatment and harassment at work places and families.

The SP said that the Student Police Cadets scheme was introduced by the Central government and 10 schools were already participating in it in the first phase.

Based on their results, he said that the government allowed to select 31 schools in the second phase. He added that by institutionalising the training on morals, human values and law of the land, the schools could create a good generation of people soon.
