Guntur: Untimely rains damaged the chilli in huge quantities and also paddy as the yields were kept in fields for drying purpose after harvesting. Farmers spread their harvested chilli and paddy in the agriculture fields for drying up.

Harvested chilli stocks in Palnadu region and paddy stocks which were left in the agriculture fields in Tenali revenue division soaked in the rain. Phethai cyclone had already damaged paddy crop in Tenali revenue division. Due to rainwater, paddy crop discoloured.

The farmers are getting less price for discoloured paddy. Similarly, due to cyclone and drought chilli crop damaged in Palnadu region. Untimely rains during the last two days damaged the chilli in the agriculture fields.

A farmer T Sambasiva Rao in Gamalapadu village, said " Due to untimely rains, chilli stock in the agriculture fields for drying up changed into inferior quality. Due to lack of demand the chilli price has been fallen comparing to last year.

Another farmer P.Krishnaiah said " Harvested chilli stocks in the agriculture fields soaked in the rain water. Chillis will get discoloured. I cannot get my investment also."
