Kakinada: A leopard which surfaced near Atreyapuram about 30 kilometre from Rajamahendravaram in East Godavari district attacked four persons on Monday. The victims, who sustained minor injuries, were given first aid at a hospital at Ravulapalem.

East Godavari divisional forest officer (wild life) Nandini Solaria reached the area on receiving the information along with a veterinary doctor. The police also rushed to the spot to control the crowd who were armed with sticks and other weapons.

According to sources, scared by the large crowds the leopard climbed a nearby coconut tree. According to East Godavari DFO Nandini Solaria the animal might have lost its way and reached these parts in search of food.

The Vizag Zoo team which reached the place is making all out efforts to catch the animal. The DFO said they were trying to persuade the crowd leave the vicinity and not come out of the houses till the animal is caught
