The new powerplant is 40 per cent more efficient than the present version on sale in India. The hybrid components are now smaller and include a new lithium-ion hybrid battery. This one is placed underneath the rear seats instead below the luggage area in the trunk.
The Prius has been one of the most successful hybrid cars in the market and the new one promises an efficiency of 40kmpl. As a part of Toyota's Eco vision scheme and a step towards the go green philosophy, Toyota will launch the new Prius in India this year.
