The Honda Africa Twin CRF1000L has been showcased at the Auto Expo 2016. The iconic nameplate was brought back to life last year after a two-decade sabbatical. The motorcycle is inspired by the original model which in turn was inspired by the multiple Dakar Rally winning NXR750.

The most interesting thing about the new Africa Twin is that it will be locally assembled in India! When it goes on sale, it will be the second locally built high-capacity motorcycle from Honda, the first being the CBR650F.

The off-roader is powered by a 998 cc liquid-cooled parallel twin engine with 270-degree crank. The motor puts out 95 PS and 98 Nm of torque. The motorcycle can either be specified with conventional 6-speed manual transmission or a high-tech dual-clutch automatic transmission. The auto variant will have buttons on the handlebar switchgear consoles (both sides) for manual shifting.

The adventure tourer’s lightweight semi-double frame is suspended by long travel inverted telescopic fork upfront and adjustable rear monoshock at the rear. The spoke wheels come shod with on-off road tyres. The front wheel employs two 310 mm twin disc brakes while the rear gets 256 mm single disc.

The Africa Twin receives multiple ride modes (automatic variant), standard ABD and Three stage traction control system. Both ABS and TC can be switched off.

The Honda Africa Twin is expected to go on sale in India later this year. Check out our comprehensive 2016 Auto Expo coverage.
