The sedan in question would share most of its underpinnings with the next gen Punto.Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (FCA) has announced a USD 500 million investment for revamping its Cordoba plant in Argentina. Post the much needed shot in the arm, the facility will commence production of the new global Fiat car in the second half of 2017.

Once the plant is ready, it would have an installed production capacity of 100,000 units per annum. FCA has not divulged the product details but has confirmed that the new model to be produced in Argentina will be based on a modular platform and will be exported to several markets. In fact, about 80% of the production capacity would be dedicated to export markets, especially the Latin American nations.

Autossegredos reports that the mystery global model in question is the Fiat X6S (codename) sedan which is destined to replace the aging Grand Siena and Linea. The X6S is based on a modular platform which also underpins the next gen Punto hatchback (codenamed X6H) which would enter production in Brazil.

It was earlier reported that Fiat India is actively looking for a replacement to the obsolete Linea. The EMEA-spec Tipo sedan appears to be too expensive for the Indian market and the Brazil-spec Grand Siena is just as outdated as the Linea. So we reckon a heavily Indianized version of the Fiat X6S sedan would make for a good Linea replacement.
