Targeting the likes of Toyota Corolla, Skoda Octavia, Chevrolet Cruze, VW Jetta and Renault Fluence, the new gen Elantra ditches the fluidic design for a more matured appearance.

This time, the car was spotted in Pune, suggesting that it could be there to undergo homologation at ARAI (Automotive Research Association of India). The festival season (September to November) appears to be the right time for the introduction of the 2017 Elantra.

The new design is sleeker with a low slung front fascia, a smoothly arching roof and a short rear overhang. Interior too is all new with the design inspired by larger global Hyundais. The infotainment system is up to date and the cabin is packed with upmarket features.

The new gen sedan is longer than the current car by 20 mm, wider by 25 mm and taller by 5 mm. Engine lineup for India is not confirmed yet but we expect the 149 PS 2.0-litre petrol engine and 136 PS 1.6-litre diesel engine to be on offer. Both manual and automatic transmission would be on offer.
