Hyderabad: Infosys on Monday announced its plans to set up a 7MW solar PV plant at its Hyderabad campus. This move taken up as a part of its green initiatives is a step towards achieving its goal to meet the entire electricity need of the campus through renewable sources in the next few years.

“Infosys’ Hyderabad campus is the first in India to have radiant cooled commercial building, with the biggest comparison of HVAC (heating, ventilating, and air conditioning) system in the world. Daylight and vision panels in the buildings also ensure that over 91 per cent of occupied spaces have natural light and all employees have access to views, adding to comfort and productivity,” the software major said in a release.

Towards encouraging water conservation, the company has also installed about 290 waterless urinals at the campus last fiscal. These urinals do not require water for flushing, thereby reducing water consumption and energy use for pumping and treating water. In addition, treated wastewater is used for the entire cooling tower at the Hyderabad campus.

“Appropriate water treatment technologies have been setup to treat the water coming from the sewage treatment plant thus making it suitable for the cooling tower requirements. This initiative has helped the company reduce dependency on freshwater for cooling tower water needs,” it added.

Furthermore, the company has also planted 15,758 saplings at Hyderabad campus in fiscal 2015 taking the total number of sapling plantations across campuses to over 4, 15,000 in the last seven years. Recently, the software major published Infosys Sustainability Report as per the Global Reporting Initiative G4 guidelines.
