Hyd co to make Thomson LED TVs. Thomson, a part of France-based Technicolour SA, on Tuesday announced its re-entry into Indian consumer electronics and durable market by launching Thomson LED televisions in the country.

Hyderabad: Thomson, a part of France-based Technicolour SA, on Tuesday announced its re-entry into Indian consumer electronics and durable market by launching Thomson LED televisions in the country.

French brand also signed exclusive licensing agreement with the city-based Resolute Electronics Private Limited which will set up a plant with an investment of Rs 300 crore to manufacture Thomson LED TVs and home appliances such as refrigerators, washing machines and air conditioners. The new facility is expected to generate 500 jobs.
Telangana IT Minister K Taraka Rama Rao which was present at the launch event as chief guest expressed his delight at global brand such as Thomson choosing Telangana as its manufacturing and distribution base. “These manufacturing initiatives will generate direct and indirect employment through the development of the consumer electronics ecosystem,” he said.
Thomson is gearing up to launch Thomson LED TVs by the August end. It will also roll out Smart and UHD LED TV in time for the upcoming festive season. Subsequently, it will also introduce a large range of home appliances.Thomson brand first came to Indian CRT television market way back in 2000. It however exited from the Indian TV market in 2005.
“India is a huge consumer market of $12.5 billion per annum, and is growing at an annual rate of 10 per cent since 2010-14. It is poised to become one of the top five largest markets in the world and we are happy to launch the Thomson brand to offer the best in class technology and innovation in home entertainment to the Indian consumers,” said Ms Manuele Wahl, Senior Vice-President, Technicolor.
Resolute Electronics, established in 1998, is in the business of making consumer electronics products and others for global players. Currently, it has a manufacturing base to churn 2,000 TV sets a day.
With the planned investment in marketing, product development, and manufacturing facility for Thomson TVs, we aim to achieve a market share of five per cent by end of 2016, said A Gopal Krishna, CEO, Resolute Electronics.
