floralTirupati: Floral tributes were paid to Dr BR Ambedkar on his 123rd birth anniversary here on Sunday. Weaker Sections Association of SVU, JAC of SC and ST Associations and Girijana Vidyarthi Samakhya arrived at BR Ambedkar statue located at main entrance of SV University and garlanded the statue. Addressing the gathering, Prof. W Rajendra, Vice Chancellor, SVU, after the felicitation, he said that the vision of Ambedkar is always needed to the society and appealed everyone to practice the principles preached by him. SVU registrar Prof. Satyavelu Reddy, Rector Prof. MAK Sukumar, a few professors, non-teaching staff and non-academic staff attended the programme. JAC honourary chairman Dr Srihari Rao, chairman Paramasivan, GVS president P Sankar Naik, student and youth leaders also took part in the programme. Meanwhile, politicians garlanded Ambedkar statue near RTC bus station. Tirupati MLA Bhumana Karunakar Reddy, Republican Party of India leader P Anjaiah, representatives of JAC of SC and ST Associations garlanded the statue. Earlier, JAC organised '5 K Run' with students and youth in the early hours of Sunday from Ambedkar statue near RTC bus station. This rally was aimed at building a 'caste-free society'. Girijana Vidyarthi Samakhya State president P Shankar Naik demanded the State and Central governments to observe birth anniversaries of Komuram Bhim, who fought for the rights of tribal people and Santh Sri Sevalal Maharaj, who fought for the rights and development of 'Banjara' tribe. He stated that if the government is really committed to the welfare of tribal people, it should prove by fulfilling their demand. The population of tribal people is more than a crore in the State, hence, the State government should come forward to install their statues, he said. Minister and PCC Chief Botcha Satyanarayana garlanded the Ambedkar Statue near RTC bus station and spoke about the vision of Ambedkar in realising the equality among the masses in society.
