When Salman Khan ribbed Karan Johar in the latest season of Koffee With Karan for never casting him in films under the Dharma Productions banner, someone was listening; and now, his wish may have come true.

There has been a lot of speculation surrounding Karan’s ambitious project, Shuddi. Initially, he wanted cast Hrithik Roshan and Kareena Kapoor in the film, but the on-screen dream-duo reportedly dropped out. Then there were rumours that the Ram-Leela pair, Ranveer and Deepika, were to be cast instead – but those rumours too were soon laid to rest.

Recent reports say that Salman Khan maybe the new hero of the show. According the Mumbai Mirror, Karan met Salman at his Bandra residence over the script of Shuddhi, departing on a positive note.

Here are a few reasons why Salman may have won over Karan’s heart, and could win over all our hearts in Shuddhi.

They’re the new best friends of Bollywood

It’s true, they are, and it really did come as a surprise to the industry to see Karan warming up to Shah Rukh Khan’s arch rival. Karan and Salman have been seen spending a lot of time together at parties, and exchanged friendly banter on his talk show. Is it possible that Karan saw something in Salman which told him he was perfect for the film?

Salman’s fan base

Salman is a popular Bollywood hero, and considered to be among the most talented. Salman has maintained a successful streak, barring the disappointment that was Jai Ho. With Salman’s name on the film poster, it might combine the two very different audiences Karan and Salman respectively attract.

Karan wants to work with Salman too!

Salman teased Karan for never casting him in his films on Koffee With Karan, but according to a Mumbai Mirror report, Salman had been on Karan’s list of actors to work with for a long time. Could he finally tick the actor of with Shuddhi?

Shahrukh and Karan are drifting apart

Karan and Shahrukh Khan have been good friends for a long time; but with Karan and Salman becoming coffee buddies, the differences cropping up between SRK and K-Jo have reportedly finally reached their peak. Take, for instance, that Shahrukh didn’t appear in the latest season of Karan’s talk show even though he has always a regular.

Is Salman perfect for a Karan Johar film, or would one of the other talents of the Bollywood industry like Ranboor Kapoor, Shahrukh Khan or Arjun Rampal be better for the part?
