During the promotions of ‘Panjaa’, Pawan Kalyan had mentioned that the idea of joining social media didn’t fancy him. “I thought about it (joining Twitter) many a time. But what will I say? That I just came back from shooting? That I am tired and sitting stretching my feet? What’s the use of all this?” stated the actor, speaking to TV superstar Suma.
Gets a red carpet welcome
During the promotions of ‘Panjaa’, Pawan Kalyan had mentioned that the idea of joining social media didn’t fancy him. “I thought about it (joining Twitter) many a time. But what will I say? That I just came back from shooting? That I am tired and sitting stretching my feet? What’s the use of all this?” stated the actor, speaking to TV superstar Suma. He added lightheartedly, “Should I say, ‘I just had an interview with Suma. She was laughing as she spoke to me’? I don’t think I can do that.”
Looks like the star had a change of heart as he finally decided to make a grand entry on Twitter on New Year. And no one is complaining, especially not his fans and admirers! And as it finally happened on Thursday, there was a huge hysteria. Within four hours of the usually reticent star’s entrance, he had 40,000 followers. By the time of going to print, nearly 24 hours after his entry, he had nearly 95,000 followers and his first post had been retweeted 20,000 times.
“Wishing you all a very Happy New Year! Peace and Good Health. (Sic),” his first 140 characters read, much to the delight of fans, who tweeted their glee with the hash tag – #PawanKalyanOnTwitter. Such was the frenzy that in no time the tag became a worldwide trend! And even 20 hours after his arrival, the actor trended on top in the Indian trends. Surprisingly, the trend managed to stay afloat amidst other popular trends like ‘Happy New Year’ and the biggest sporting event of the first day of 2015, the English Premier League.
Superstar Rajinikanth with 2,15,000 followers holds the record for maximum number of followers on day one for an Indian actor. Pawan Kalyan with 95,000 followers is ranked second. The Telugu star beat Aamir Khan’s record of 46,000 followers on day one to clinch the second spotHere are a few tweets that the excited actors and junta shared:
