Vinavayya Ramayya’ has only one interesting aspect surrounding it – the fact that both lead actors Naga Anvesh and Kruthika have played Venkatesh’s children in ‘Intlo Illalu Vantintlo Priyuralu’ and ‘Drishyam’ respectively. Except for that, here’s a film which neither manages to give the audience anything new nor does it showcase an old story in a fresh light.

To begin with, there’s no clarity on why this film is christened ‘Vinavayya Ramayya’ because it nowhere revolves around the film’s plot. Secondly, the film is all about “launching” Anvesh and in the process, what could have been a simple story is lost in the midst of all his heroics.

In a village, Veerayyapalem, Chanti (Naga Anvesh) and Janaki (Kruthika) are neighbours. Chanti is a jobless young boy whose only job is to love Janaki, the daughter of well-respected Chowdary (Prakash Raj). Through the most bizarre incidents transpires a love story between the duo.

The reason why this film fails to engage you is that it is a routine story which is given a rather outdated treatment. An ambivalent script seems to have only goal – to reach the climax anyhow! There are a string of strange coincidences which result in the lead pair’s alliance. It is kind of ridiculous that Janaki shows no feelings for Chanti throughout but ends up reciprocating his love for her! How and why it happened is best left to the director and his team of writers to answer. Please.

Director Ram Prasad’s skills add no value to the film. Unnecessary songs and over the top action blocks, for a newcomer, are an insult to the injury. The attention given to hiring of the cast and crew that boasts of many renowned faces such as Prakash Raj, Brahmanandam, Ali and Saptagiri amongst technicians like music director Anup Rubens, cinematographer Rasool Ellore and editor Praveen Pudi, seems to have been ignored while writing the film’s draft.

Anvesh dances well but he needs to pull his socks acting-wise. Kruthika had nothing much to do and there was more attention to her make-up than her acting chops. The only good thing in this spiritless film is that it is sprinkled with some witty one liners but sadly they are few and far between. It is high time Telugu cinema filmmakers bring in more of actors instead of sourcing in just another “hero”!
