Nandamuri Kalyan Ram's previous outing as Hero, 'Naa Nuvve' which is a love story ended up as a debacle at the box office. So, instead of a love story, The Nandamuri actor has taken up a suspense action thriller titled '118'. Cinematographer KV Guhan helmet this project. The movie marked his directorial debut in Telugu. 'Arjun Reddy' girl Shalini Pandey and Nivetha Thomas played the female lead roles in this movie. Kalyan Ram has is hoping to score a hit at least this time. The makers also succeeded in creating a positive buzz around the film with the promotional material. The movie is important for the lead pair as well as the director. Also, Kalyan Ram did some daredevil stunts in this movie which got released today on March 1st. Let's check out the review of the film.

Story:

Gautham (Kalyan Ram) is an investigative journalist who is curious of everything. He regularly gets a violent dream of Aadhya (Nivetha Thomas) getting beaten by some unknown guys in a room that he stayed in a resort. It just makes him irked. He decides to chase the mystery behind it and starts investigating the same. Then Aadhya calls him and while talking to her, Gautham meets with an accident. Who is Aadhya? What is her story? How is it related to Gautham? Forms the story of the film.

Performances:

Nandamuri Kalyan Ram's power-packed performance is undoubtedly the show stealer of the film. The way he carried his role with energy will definitely grab the attention of the audience. Not only the romantic scenes with Shalini Pandey, but Kalyan Ram has nailed the action sequences in the film also. The Daredevil underwater stunt performed by Kalyan Ram is simply amazing. Shalini Pandey did her best in the movie. She looked beautiful and justified her character. More than Shalini Pandey, the scope of performance is more for Nivetha Thomas and the actress has delivered her best performance by utilizing this opportunity. She is an absolute delight to watch her powerful performance. Nasser delivered an honest performance in the movie. Rajiv Kanakala got yet another meaty role in the film and he did his best. Prabhas Seenu who played the sidekick of Kalyan Ram will impress the audience. The rest of the cast also made their presence felt.

Technical Aspects:

Production values by Mahesh S Koneru under East Coast productions banner are very rich. Music by Shekar Chandra added more beauty for the film. Though there are some boring songs, his BGM is wonderful. KV Guhan handled the camera as well and it is known that he is a pro at cinematography and he proved it again with this film. Editing by Tammiraju is clean. Runtime is crisp.

Verdict:

Cinematographer KV Guhan turned director with this movie in Telugu. Guhan proved his amazing story-telling skills. The way he carried the story is really intriguing. From the start to the end, the director succeeded in maintaining the mystery and running the story with the same ease and energy. This story will definitely be the highlight of the film. The first half of the film sets an interesting premise with a clear introduction of all the characters. The story unfolds into multiple layers in the second half which is impressive. Putting a few logics aside, the director tried to come up with a thrilling film and his skill in writing helped him to keep the audiences engaged in the screenplay. Except some shortcomings, the film impresses the right set of audiences.
