Warangal: ‘At last…’, the WhatsApp profile status of Chennuri Rupesh, who recently cracked civil services, more or less sums up his earnest ambition. With his achievement, this lad, resident of Padmashali Colony of Hasanparthy mandal headquarters, also makes a statement that poverty is not a hindrance to success.

Rupesh, third of three siblings born to an auto-driver Ramanaiah and bidi worker Sarojana, who always struggled to make ends meet, has got 526 rank in the civil services exam in his fourth attempt. Now he is likely to make it to IPS.

What makes his achievement special is that this 25-year-old neither had resources to get the benefit of coaching nor could he devote entire time to prepare for the civil services as he works as an engineer with the Central Public Works Department (CPWD).

After completing his schooling and polytechnic from the state-run institutions, he got into engineering course EEE. Though he had the ambition of making it to the civil services, he had to join the junior engineer post in CPWD to support his family.

“Economic and social backdrop play a critical role in one’s career. It’s challenging for those like me who was raised in the rough neighbourhoods with no one to give guidance on career pursuits.

Thorough understanding of the pattern and syllabus is the first step in preparing for the civils,” Rupesh told The Hans India. But, for the Public Administration classes that I attended, I prepared on my own by squeezing some time out of my job and daily routine, he said.

Disclosing his penchant for IAS, Rupesh, who is scheduled to report at Lal Bahadur Shastri National Academy in Mussorie on August 29 for the foundation course, said that he has plans to have one more go at the civil services exam next year.
