Bhadrachalam: Kancharla Gopanna, endearingly known as Bhakta Ramadas, served Lord Rama and built a temple for the Lord. He penned many kirtans, thereby rendering signal service to Telugu language. Kancharla Gopanna was born in 1620 to a couple – Linga Murthy and Kamamba – of Nelakondapalli.

In the 16th century, he penned kirtans in simple Telugu for the benefit of one and all. He initiated the tradition of performing bhajans. Some of his popular kirtans include “Adigo Bhadradri”, “Sitammaku Cheyisti Chintaku Patakam”, “Nanu Brovamani Cheppave Sitammatalli” and “Takkuvemi Manaku Ramudokkadunnavaraku”.

However, only a few of the numerous kirtans penned by Ramadas have survived. Ramadas is one of those poets who did their best to perpetuate the glory of Telugu language. Scholars say that Dasaradhi Satakam was written by Bhakta Ramadas.
