Spurned youth stabs girl, attempts suicide

Nizamabad: A II year degree student of R K Degree College in Kamareddy, Saikiran Reddy, attacked a fellow student Sneha(18) of B.Com I year in her classroom on Wednesday for turning down his love. She sustained injuries on the chest and hand. Later, he attempted suicide by stabbing himself in the stomach. Both were first admitted to the Kamareddy area hospital.

Subsequently, Sneha of Lingampet in Nizamabad district, was moved to a private hospital here for better treatment. Reddy, a resident of Boompalli in Medak district, was shifted to Gandhi Hospital, Secunderabad. Both were reported to be in a serious condition.

The incident occurred when the youth had a row with the girl, whom he had been pestering for some time in the name of love. As she did not respond positively, in a fit of rage he attacked her with a knife. Later, Reddy stabbed himself with the same knife.

According to fellow students, both were said to be in love for some time. However, recently they developed differences. Reddy came to the college on Wednesday and tried to converse with Sneha. He got angry when she declined and attacked her with knife on her hand, stomach and legs in the classroom when the other students were present.

Reddy got scared seeing the girl’s bleeding injuries and stabbed himself, her classmates said. They immediately informed the lecturers who shifted both to the local government hospital. The Devunipalle police took up investigation. Meanwhile, several district-level student organisations staged demonstrations in Nizamabad, Kamareddy and Armor, expressing resentment against the harassment of Sneha. They organised a bandh of educational institutions in Kamareddy to protest against the incident.
