Security forces recovered huge cache of arms and ammunition in possession from the slain militants.

The incident took place at Bolaikhamar area under Lakhipur police station in the west Assam district, where the militants were killed in an encounter.

Acting on a tip-off, police and army 7th Jat Regiments had launched joint operation at the remote bordering area, where the militants were hiding.

“When the troops reached the area, the militants had started firing and forced us to exchange bullets, in which the militant duo killed on spot,” a top police official said.

Security forces recovered two 7.65mm pistol, nine live ammunition, three hand grenades in possession from the slain militants, who are yet to be identified.

Top police and army officials had rushed to the area and launched operation against GNLA militants.

GNLA and United Liberation Front of Asom (Independent) militants are active in the bordering areas of the two neighbouring states.
