According to officials, Premraj Verma, 52, a former government employee started the rehabilitation home, Awake, in the Housing Board Colony, Moula Ali in 2009, for the children of whose parents were in jail.

Hyderabad: A man was handed over to Kushaiguda police by officials of Woman and Child Welfare Department for running a rehabilitation home without government’s permission. They acted upon a tip-off from few children, who alleged regular sexual abuse. According to officials, Premraj Verma, 52, a former government employee started the rehabilitation home, Awake, in the Housing Board Colony, Moula Ali in 2009, for the children of whose parents were in jail.

Interestingly, Verma, who had allegations against in the past, did not seek any permission from the government. The inmates included children from five years of age to youngsters. The officials raided the place and rescued 17 boys and one girl. The officials who quizzed him were surprised to find that no records were maintained for the last six years. Besides his failure to keep any warden for girls, he allegedly sexually abused some of them. The officials, who failed to get satisfactory answer, handed over him to the Kushaiguda police station for further investigation.
