On further enquiring with Indiamart, he was emailed a list of dealers who deal with Blue and Gold Macaws and later an e-mail with an offer for sale of pair of Macaws for Rs 1.5 lakh was sent. The victim deposited Rs 50,000 as advance. “Though the victim deposited the amount in the fraudster's account, the latter started demanding more money for flight charges, etc,” ACP (Crimes) Cyberabad S Jayaram said adding that when the victim smelt a rat in the deal he approached police.
Based on a complaint by the victim, police registered a case and took up investigation. During investigation, it was found that the fraudsters were Cameroonians and pursuing their education in the city. “They registered themselves as sellers of exotic birds with the e-commerce portal Indiamart.
They also posted advertisements on the portal of selling 32 types of steroids, 16 types of sleeping pills, 28 types of potency drugs, 8 types of Botox injections and 12 types of Human Growth Hormones (HGH) though they have no stock of any of these items,” the ACP added.Police recovered two laptops, a MacBook notebook computer, 7 cell phones, 9 SIM cards, passports and Rs 40,000 from their possession. A notice has been sent to the portal to filter the content of advertisements.
