Hyderabad: A youngster was convicted and sentenced for life for brutally killing his father by setting him ablaze for refusing to buy him a cell phone. This incident took place on May 16, 2014 under Chandrayangutta police station limits. According to police, A Sai Kiran (20), a resident of Indira Nagar under Chandrayangutta, had sought money from his father A Narsimha (45) to buy a cell phone, but the deceased turned down his request.

Upon rejection, the accused set him ablaze while he was asleep, by pouring kerosene on him and closing the door of the room from outside. The victim in his statement, before succumbing to burns stated that he was living along with his son. Recently his wife died due to ill-health. On the night of May 15, he came to his house after completion of his work and had dinner along with his son.

After the dinner, he slept in his room. While the victim was asleep, his son poured kerosene on him and set him on fire. Upon hearing his cries, his relatives have opened the door and rushed him to the hospital for treatment. Sai Kiran has been sentenced for life under section 302 IPC for killing father by setting him ablaze.
