As many as 12 persons of a 40-member inter-state cricket betting gang were arrested by the Cyberabad Special Operations Team police on Thursday from various places and seized Rs 9.28 lakh from them.On a tip-off, the sleuths of SOT Malkajgiri Zone apprehended 12 persons including main bookies, collection agents, punters and line-organisers from Medipally, Kushaiguda and Vanasthalipuram.
Hyderabad: As many as 12 persons of a 40-member inter-state cricket betting gang were arrested by the Cyberabad Special Operations Team police on Thursday from various places and seized Rs 9.28 lakh from them.On a tip-off, the sleuths of SOT Malkajgiri Zone apprehended 12 persons including main bookies, collection agents, punters and line-organisers from Medipally, Kushaiguda and Vanasthalipuram.

The police said during the raids, bookies Ch Praveen (38) and N Kishore Goud (36), collection agents Ch Sampath Kumar (50), M Pandu (39), Korada Ravi Teja (24), Mavurideva Subramanyam (28), Peddi Santhosh Kumar (35) and Parigi Ramesh (25), were arrested. Local organisers Subhash Chawle (41) and M Narayana (36), along with punters, Karnati Anil Kumar Choudary (37) and Mutapuram Srinivas Goud (36) have been arrested, said SOT police.
SOT Additional DCP E Ramachandra Reddy said accused Praveen was organising cricket betting from five years along with Chetan. He used to collect Rs 20-25 lakh from the punters per match through Sampath and Pandu and had setup a multi-caller system to contact the punters.
Absconding accused Satya Suresh, Harish Kumar and Nagaraju, organise betting in Vanasthalipuram, Hayathnagar and LB Nagar. “The racket is being operated simultaneously at Amalapuram and Visakhapatnam also. Several middlemen are involved in the racket,” he said adding one laptop, 26 mobiles and two counting machines were also seized from the accused and hunt is on to nab the prime accused operating from Bangalore.
