​Hyderabad: A passenger from Hyderabad and a ground handling employee of Rajiv Gandhi International Airport were held by the officials of Directorate of Revenue Intelligence for attempting to smuggle gold on Friday

Acting on a tip-off, the DRI officials intercepted a passenger from city at Shamshabad from Dubai by an Emirates flight. When checked, the passenger carried two packets in his baggage. The packets contained gold bars wrapped in black coloured tape.

“The air passenger was carrying 28 bars of gold weighing 10 tolas each, total of 3.26 kg. The gold is worth Rs 97 lakh. The passenger was taken into custody when he attempted to hand over the gold bars to a ground handling staff at RGIA for taking it out of the airport” said DRI Additional Director General MK Singh in a note on Friday.
