Army officer attempts suicide

A trainee officer from Officer Training Academy (OTA), Chennai, attempted suicide by slashing his wrist in a hotel at Araku Valley on Thursday. The 29 year old officer was identified as Mahendra Singh Rawat , son of Prem Singh Rawat, native of Dehradun in Uttarakhand.
Visakhapatnam A trainee officer from Officer Training Academy (OTA), Chennai, attempted suicide by slashing his wrist in a hotel at Araku Valley on Thursday. The 29 year old officer was identified as Mahendra Singh Rawat , son of Prem Singh Rawat, native of Dehradun in Uttarakhand.
The young trainee officer was found lying in a pool of blood in the hotel room by the hotel staff on Thursday morning and he was rushed to a local hospital, where his condition is said to be stable.
Araku Valley Police said that Mahendra Singh Rawat came to the Valley from Chennai city and checked into a hotel on Wednesday. Soon after checking in, he slit his wrist, slashed his neck and legs.
Araku Valley sub-inspector K Simhachalam said that Rawat has attempted suicide allegedly due to failure in departmental examination. Upset with his performance, he came to Araku to end his life. The police registered a case and informed his family members, who are expected to arrive at the valley on Friday.
