​Hyderabad: The Hayathnagar police on Monday arrested three more persons in connection with the ganja smuggling case, taking the total number of accused to six.

The accused identified as Srinivasa Reddy of Keesara, Siva Reddy and Srinivas Rao from Devarakadra in Mahbubnagar district, were supposed to have received the consignment but escaped after learning about the arrest of their associates. A car has been seized from the accused on Monday, the police said.

On credible information, the special team of Hayathnagar police had intercepted a DCM van at Abdullapurmet on NH 65 on July 4, and arrested P Naga Raju of Dornakal, G Raju and C Veera Babu of Gokaram village, after seizing 2,016 kg ganja worth Rs 2-crore and the DCM van that was used to smuggle ganja from East Godavari.

The police said it was learnt the accused persons were smuggling ganja after an increase in the consumption by students and other addicts here.
