Hyderabad: The Cyber Crime Police of Cyberabad arrested four persons for running illegal Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) routing exchanges and creating loss to the Department of Telecommunication.

On a tip off, police raided three premises at Miyapur, Pragathi Nagar and Madhura Nagar and apprehended G Vijaya Bhasker Reddy, Hanumanthu Vajjula Suresh, Dumpala Srinivas (36) and K Ramesh Kumar (34).

The police said the accused had set up illegal call exchange routers through which they diverted the VoIP calls to the concerned mobile numbers in India. They used International Long Distance (ILD) gateways to ensure that the VoIP caller could not be traced.

Further questioning revealed that the prime accused Bhasker had partnered with Suresh and was running the business for the last four years at Madhura Nagar. Later, Srinivas and Ramesh joined them and they also purchased SIM gateways and routers from China.

Police seized five 32 port SIM card gateways, three 16 port SIM card gateways, 403 SIM cards, 25 routers and nine mobiles from the accused.
