Hyderabad: Common Admission Test (CAT) aspirants should brace up for major changes in the examination pattern this year. The Indian Institute of Management, Indore (IIM-I) on Saturday announced the test will be conducted on November 16 and 22 only.
According to the new pattern, candidates will now have to answer 50 questions in quantitative ability and data interpretation, verbal ability and logical reasoning instead of 30 questions. The IIM-I which is conducting the examination for the second consecutive year has increased the duration of the test by 30 minutes — from 140 minutes (2 hours 20 minutes) to 170 minutes (2 hours 50 minutes). The institute has also discontinued the purchase of offline vouchers.
This year Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) has been given charge to conduct the examination.
The tutorial that is usually launched just before start of the exam will not be made available this year. Instead, examination authority advised candidates to go through CAT tutorials well in advance. The candidates applying for CAT will now have to pay registration fee through online modes either through net banking, credit card or debit card.
In another significant change, the exam authority body has cut down the window period for conducting the test, this year the exam will be conducted only on November 16 and November 22 in forenoon and afternoon sessions.
The number of test centres has been increased to 354 and will be conducted in 99 cities this year. Candidates will be given a choice to select cities in the order of preference. The registrations will commence from August 6 and last date to apply is September 30. MBA aspirants can download the admit card from October 16 and results will be released in the third week of December, the notification read.
