In the modern world, persecuting a person on the basis of religion or race is resented and those who persecute will be prosecuted by the law-enforcing agencies within a country and also by the United Nations International Court of Justice in the Hague.
In the modern world, persecuting a person on the basis of religion or race is resented and those who persecute will be prosecuted by the law-enforcing agencies within a country and also by the United Nations International Court of Justice in the Hague.
Persecute means to treat someone cruelly, annoy someone; to oppress a section of the society for their beliefs or practices; to punish a community or a caste or race; ill treatment of somebody owing to his or her religion or race; mistreating someone for their political or ideological beliefs; and to harass somebody. The Christians were persecuted in the Ancient Rome for their religious beliefs.
In schools, some students can persecute another student because of his looks or appearance but the teachers should stand guard. The Nazis in Germany during the World Wars I & II persecuted the Jews. The police should ensure that they treat all the sections of the society equally and not persecute one community against the other because of its religious beliefs. .During the Soviet era, the political establishment has persecuted few Russians because they did not toe the official political line; thus they were either exiled or sent to concentration camps.
Prosecute means to take legal action against someone or somebody for violating the law, or for sidestepping established rules and creating panic or inconvenience to the citizenry; prosecute means to proceed against someone in a court of law. The CBI (Central Bureau of Investigation: India’s top investigating agency) can prosecute a politician or a bureaucrat when he or she embezzles money that belongs to the public or the government.
Shoplifters can be prosecuted by the owners of the shop. Prosecutor is a person who prosecutes in a court of law. Prosecution is a noun: the process of prosecuting for a criminal offence in the court of law. Prosecution is what scares the politicians from wrongdoing such as embezzlement of funds, or favouring someone for monetary gains. Prosecute in formal contexts also means to continue to be occupied with something: prosecute with one’s studies, prosecute with one’s enquiries, prosecute peace activities.
Persecution is a crime in almost all the countries but there are instances in the history of the world when countries deliberately persecute its citizens because of their religious or political beliefs like it happened in Germany, Yugoslavia but the persecutors were prosecuted. It is happening now in Iraq and Syria at the instance of ISIS (Islamic State of Iraq and Syria) but the US and its allies are determined to prosecute it.
