The flood situation in Assam turned grim on Wednesday after flood waters submerged 282 villages across Dhemaji, Kokrajhar, Chirang, Lakhimpur, Bongaigaon, Tinsukia and Dibrugarh districts.
The Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA) said in its flood report that, over 1.35 lakh people have affected in the fresh flood alone in Bongaigaon district.
The affected people had sheltered in schools, highways and other higher lands.
District administrations had opened 45 relief camps in Bongaigaon, Kokrajhar and Chirang, where 18,000 people had took shelter.
Flood waters submerged over 12,600 hectors crop area in Dhemaji, Kokrajhar, Bongaigaon, Lakhimpur and Chirang districts.
According the Central Water Commission (CWC) report, Brahmaputra river is flowing above the danger mark at Dibrugarh, Nematighat in Jorhat, Beki river in Barpeta, Puthimari in kamrup and Jia Bharali at NT Road crossing in Sonitpur.
The water level of Brahmaputra and its tributaries are rising following incessant rains across the state in past few days.
