Vote us or forget eating beef: Asad

Hyderabad: MIM chief and Hyderabad MP Asaduddin Owaisi played the beef card in Hyderabad as he appealed to members of the Muslim community to vote for his party if they wanted to continue eating beef. During a public meeting in Jambagh division, as part of campaigning for the GHMC elections on Sunday night, he said, “If MIM does not win the elections, the members of minority community will have to forget about eating beef.”

The three-time MP also accused the BJP-led Maharashtra state government of targeting poor Muslims and Dalits through its beef ban. “The ban was enforced in March last year, but exports have gone up since then,” he said. According to him, since Prime Minister Narendra Modi became Prime Minister, the quantity of beef exported from India had gone up by 17 percent.

He said Maharashtra government had imposed ban on cow slaughter but after the BJP government came to power, they banned beef as well. Even during the first public meeting of GHMC elections on January 19, he cited the example of Maharashtra, where BJP-Shiv Sena combine have not only banned beef, but also stopped people from eating non-veg for at least 8-days on a particular festivity.

He had said that construction of slaughter houses in Hyderabad, whose permission was granted during its time would be completed and people will have no more complain about shortage of beef. “There is law for slaughtering a cow, but there is permission for eating bulls and buffalo,” he said.
