ex2Mangalagiri (Guntur): The Anti-Corruption Bureau officials caught Excise and Prohibition officer Yashodara Devi red-handed while accepting a bribe of Rs 14,000 at Managalagiri of Guntur district on Wednesday.

According to sources, the ACB has been hiring the Tata Sumo of one Nutalapati Venkateswara Rao as it did not have its own vehicle. As per government rules, Rs 17,000 was being paid for the vehicle as rent per month. The rent was increased to Rs 24,000 recently, taking into account the escalating petrol prices, driver's salary and other expenses.

It is learnt that Venkateswara Rao has been giving the vehicle bearing AP 24U 6789 on rent for the past 10 years. A bill worth Rs 48,000 for two months is pending with the excise department. The Excise and Prohibition Circle Inspector, M Yashodhara Devi, allegedly demanded Rs 14,000 bribe from Rao for releasing the bills. Venkateswara Rao lodged a complaint with ACB DSP Narsimha Rao. In turn, he laid a trap and caught the CI red-handed while accepting the bribe. The CI was arrested and will be remanded to custody on Thursday, police said.
