The Indian Institute of Chemical Technology (IICT) premises seems to be ignored by the 'Swachh Hyderabad' team. Huge piles of garbage, which have been dumped in the vacant area of the backyard, have converted the campus into a foul smelling dumpyard.

The IICT campus is spread over 2 km from Tarnaka to Hubsiguda and is surrounded by a compound wall. Outside the premises the garbage has been dumped dangerously close to the compound wall. "I don’t know why the garbage and debris has been dumped in the backyard, when it could be dropped into the GHMC containers," said Rajendra Prasad, a resident of an apartment adjacent to the IICT compound wall.

"When it rains, the backyard turns into a pond and becomes a breeding site for mosquitoes. Even after several complaints, there has been no response from IICT officials," said Srinivas, a resident of Hubsiguda. The sluggish clearance of garbage is leading to potentially hazardous health situations at several places in Secunderabad.

The overflowing garbage bins are a common sight in areas like Nacharam, Tarnaka, Hubsiguda and Uppal.“Garbage trucks come just twice a week here so we are forced to bear with the stench. Sometimes, it becomes impossible to keep our doors and windows open even during the day," said Jagadeeshwara Rao, a resident of Uppal.

“We have mosquito problems throughout the year. We regularly complain about this to GHMC officials, but there are no measures to save us from this daily problem", said G. Venkat Swamy, a resident of Nacharam. “Street number 14 in Tarnaka has been converted into a local garbage dump and it occupies a major portion of the road, causing inconvenience to commuters. Garbage is collected only once in three days. We urge Telangana CM KCR and GHMC officials to find a permanent solution for our problems through the 'Swachh Hyderabad' programme," KV Prasad requested.
